For an eighth grade science project, I wanted to photograph star trails. This meant leaving a camera shutter open for many minutes while the earth rotated and the stars traced curved paths on the film. The rickety tripod here was needed to hold the camera still. To create this beauty, my father used broomsticks, bolts, a piece of leather, a square of wood and his ever ready can of aluminum paint. The camera used was a light-weight plastic Diana that cost five bucks. The camera shown here is my first 35mm, a Pax that my oldest brother bought from a pawnshop. Anything else I have is too heavy for this tripod. By the way, I recently laid the patio under the grapevine.
